 Coaching Staff

A huge vote of thanks to all our coaching staff who devote many hours every week for the benefit of our members:

Les Collier, Shirley Cooke, Nikki Heighway, Paula Camborne-Paynter, Ray McKay and all the support staff that help the club provide such a good service to its members.

Coaches & Teachers:

We currently have two ASA Coaches, seven ASA level 2 teachers and two level I teachers

All our Coaching/Teaching staff have been CRB checked and are on the ASA list of approved

teachers, All have attended courses in Child Protection.

Our swimmers are taught along the lines of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming, and we follow the principles of the Long Term Athletic Development scheme.

Every year we encourage our swimmers to take part in the BLDSA one-hour swim (and for the Masters the ASA Half-hour swim), the Club Mile is popular with all ages, with certificates being awarded to all first-time “Milers”.

Other internal events indude time trials, the Annual Gala and the “PowWow” gala, the latter being limited to the very youngest swimmers, while the poolside officials in this event include many of our teenage members.

Better swimmers are encourged to take part (according to their ability) in Peninsular, Liverpool & District and Cheshire County age groups and championships and in Open Meets. Over the years we have had swimmers competing at National and District and County events, both Age Group and Championships.

The best swimmers may be encouraged to join a top competitive club, such as City of Liverpool or Wirral Metro, so that they can enjoy competition and training with higher level swimmers. All competitive results are recorded and exhibited on the Club notice board, while those who achieve the best overall results throughout the year receive awards at the club annual gala

In 2004 we achieved Swim 21 status, as both a Teaching and Swim Development club, we have been revalidated each succeeding year. We were the first club in Cheshire to achieve Swim 21. Each year we run courses for members (parents and older swimmers) who wish to become ASA qualified officials as timekeepers, judges, starters or referees. As a result of this we have 28 qualified officials, including four Referees. These officials regularly officiate at galas of all levels, up to National events.
